Jodie K. SchullerFounder/DirectorJodie K. Schuller, a California licensed speech and language pathologist and educational therapist, has 25 years of experience in the field. She received her B.A. in education from the University of Minnesota. After teaching in regular education classrooms for several years, she continued her training in the field of speech pathology and earned her M.A. in Communication Disorders from San Diego State University. Prior to opening her private practice, Jodie worked as a speech language specialist in public schools. She also taught in classrooms for children with severe language disorders. Jodie now owns and operates a private practice in North San Diego County. Her practice offers a full range of speech, language, and educational services, from early intervention for toddlers to literacy and oral/written communication skills for teenagers and adults. Jodie combines her background as a speech-language pathologist and educator to help children and adults with language-based learning disabilities. This includes individuals with dyslexia and other challenges in reading fluency, comprehension, written expression and study skills. Jodie recently opened Fast Track to School Success, in which she offers intensive tutoring for those who need to catch up or get ahead in school. Another unique service Jodie has developed stems from her extensive training as an orofacial myologist. She was recently awarded national certification by the International Association of Orofacial Myology, making Jodie Schuller and Associates one of a few practices in San Diego County who specialize in speech production problems that stem from unhealthy tongue resting postures and tongue thrust swallows. Jodie Schuller has teamed with pediatricians, pediatric dentists and orthodontists throughout San Diego County to provide early intervention to toddlers and preschoolers with drooling and feeding issues to prevent challenges with speech production and dental alignment problems. For school-aged children and adults, Jodie Schuller and Associates team with local medical professionals to correct persistent speech production problems, facilitate orthodontics and prevent orthodontic relapse. Over the years Jodie has participated in many organizations and training seminars to increase public awareness and help teachers, parents and students. She co-authored a parent/teacher handbook called Step-by Step: Sequencing Skills that Stimulate Language Development. She is a founding member of the San Diego chapter of the Language Literacy Link. Jodie has conducted numerous workshops and training classes in Southern California on subjects ranging from the basics of accent reduction to parent/teacher training classes on preparing children for school and enhancing their academic success. As a vendoring institution and California certified Non-Public Agency, Jodie Schuller and her associates also partner with the local schools to provide speech-language pathologists to the public school children enrolled in special education. They have excelled in positions at all age and severity levels, from preschool through high-school and from mildly delayed preschoolers to severely handicapped children enrolled in special day classes. Jodie Schuller, Certified Orofacial MyologistThe International Association of Orofacial Mylogists has recently honored Jodie Schuller with national certification. This makes Jodie the only certified orofacial myologist and licensed speech therapist in North San Diego County. Speech disorders in the school-aged population and adults are inextricably linked to deviant swallows and unhealthy oral resting postures; and vice versa, individuals who have tongue thrusts frequently have persistent speech disorders. Now that she is certified, Jodie is looking forward to reaching out to more dental and medical professionals, so she can help more individuals who suffer from these serious challenges that affect dental alignment, speech production, social adjustment and self esteem. |
