Rebecca TomaszewskiSpeech Language PathologistRebecca Tomaszewski was born on the Turks and Caicos Islands and moved every couple of years throughout her childhood. Her life has been full of interesting and exciting experiences from birth on! Settling in North Carolina during high school and college, Rebecca earned her BA in Child and Family Development from the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC) in 2003. She took up pre-school teaching and part-time bicycle messengering for 3 years, and, while not content with teaching, she knew she dearly wanted to work with children and families. During this time, one student inspired her to investigate the field of Speech and Language Pathology, which she found to be a perfect blend of science and art, and would afford her the opportunity to work closely with parents and children in an effective manner. She enrolled at the University of NC Greensboro for a year of pre-requisites, and then moved to Boone, NC to complete her MA in Communication Disorders. The mountains of NC proved to be a wonderful place for Rebecca to do her graduate work; as she worked diligently toward her master’s degree. Her cycling skills also improved and she joined a professional mountain bike team. She finished her graduate degree with 2 National titles (one in collegiate mountain bike racing, one in 24 hour racing) and spent the subsequent 6 months traveling, racing, and working her way toward 2 more National titles. She continues to race professionally and enjoys the challenge of finding a balance between her work with children and families, and training/competition. Moving to San Diego has enabled her to add surfing to her leisure time activities. |
